What to do during The autumn off-season September, October, November

Autumn is a magical time, here in the hollow of the mountains. The village empties out to make way for nature to take its turn. The forests take on beautiful orange and yellow hues, the ibex come down from their perches and peace and quiet arrive.

What to do during the off-season in Val d'Isère?

Before the winter season gets into full swing, it’s time to recharge your batteries away from the hustle and bustle of the city, take time to think about yourself and reconnect with nature!
Here’s a compilation of things to do in autumn in Val d’Isère.

As close as possible of nature

  • Do you know the Parc National de la Vanoise? This jewel of Savoie, with its 1,979 km² spread between the Maurienne and Tarentaise regions, offers hiking itineraries where you can spot incredible flora and fauna, including bearded vultures, eagles, ibex, chamois and marmots!
  • Many hiking trails criss-cross the area, so you’re sure to find the one that’s right for you, depending on the weather and difficulty you’re looking for. Take the opportunity to discover the Village Perdu (Lost Village) at the top of La Daille, a fun area where you can climb from tree to tree on suspended walkways made from Alpine larches! Head up to Solaise and stroll around Lac de l’Ouillette. At the end of the lake, a breathtaking panorama stretches over the village of Val d’Isère to Lac du Chevril. A more challenging hike takes you to the summit of Bellevarde, with views over the village of Val d’Isère and the superb Mont Blanc in the background, visible on a clear day.
  • For photography and video enthusiasts, autumn is the perfect time to capture beautiful colors without having to use any retouching software! #nofilterneeded
  • The Col du Petit St Bernard to Italy is open until November, as is the Col de l’Iseran, so make the most of the first snowfalls to discover sublime landscapes cut off from the world. Accessible by car or bike, these passes are only open for a few months of the year!
  • Did you know that you can sleep in an unguarded refuge? During the off-season, the Fond des Fours and Prariondrefuges remain open! After your stay, go to this platform to pay (which helps guarantee the upkeep of our refuges).

Thrills and spills! sport is here

    • The trail located at the bottom of the Bike Park are still accessible, but those at the top are no longer open due to recent snowfall. Please note that there is no longer any signage in place. We therefore recommend exercising caution and adhering to the current conditions.
    • Climb to the top of the cliff on one of the Via Ferrata routes! Don’t forget to bring your own safety equipment.
