Smart holidays Our top tips

Check out our top tips to really get the most out of your stay: ski passes at discount prices on certain key dates, restaurants serving Savoie specialities at affordable prices, and a whole variety of free activities such as après-ski sledging and nature walks.

Solaise and La Daille lounge areas

In 2016, Val d’Isère opened a picnic room with various features at the top of the Solaise sector, 2,400 metres above sea level. This pleasant facility has tables and sofas, a café and a games area, all against the backdrop of stunning views over the surrounding peaks. Another room in La Daille, next to the gondola lift, offers a comfortable space where you can enjoy your packed lunch in the warm, between two descents on the joint Tignes-Val d’Isère ski area.

Free village shuttle buses

For easy travel between the foot of the slopes and the different hamlets, Val d’Isère Téléphériques provides a free bus service operating all over the village throughout the day (every 5 minutes) and into the night (until 2am). A social and environmental commitment that keeps car traffic to a minimum, with a bus fleet that’s almost entirely electric.

Free for children under 8 years

Children under the age of 8 ski for free anywhere in the Tignes – Val d’Isère ski area, from the foot of the slopes to the glaciers. This advantage means families get to enjoy the slopes and facilities of this vast ski area, even with young children. In Val d’Isère, we particularly recommend the ValKids fun zone at the top of Solaise where you’ll find a slope dotted with obstacles and a picnic and play area. Alternatively, there’s the  Lost Village in La Daille.

Free activities Surprises galore...

Valérien, our activity leader, invites you for an après-ski session packed with free activities at the foot of the slopes. These include snoocing, human curling, snakesledging and airboarding, the perfect opportunity to have fun and test these extraordinary sledging alternatives amid fits of laughter! A host of free events are also organised throughout the winter season. Highlights include the ski-school instructors’ torchlight descent, the Premières Traces event when you get to test skis and snowboards for free, the arrival of Father Christmas, and night-time downhill skiing with a parallel slalom race and prizes to be won…

Just the right time Top tips for skiers

Novices can practise and perfect their technique with the help of 3 free ski lifts! See map.

  • Savonnette ski tow (foot of the slopes)
  • Village chairlift (foot of the slopes)
  • Lanches ski tow (La Daille sector)

The smart time to ski in Val d’Isère is at the start and end of the season, when the slopes are less busy. The months of December and April are ideal for skiing without having to queue at the lifts, but also for enjoying the festive atmosphere in the village with the opening and closing of the resort’s bars and restaurants.
